Young people across Oldham are being invited to join the town's Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets as the unit begins a new recruitment drive.
The Yates Street unit offers activities including sailing, kayaking, rowing, paddleboarding, navigation, camping, first aid, communications and fieldcraft. Cadets can also develop teamwork and leadership skills in a supervised group environment.
Alongside its practical and outdoor programme, the unit says members may have opportunities to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, BTEC qualifications, Arts Award and the Young Leaders Award.
Petty Officer Daniel Angle, commanding officer of Oldham Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets, said: “We want our cadets to leave us with experiences, qualifications, confidence and skills that they can use throughout their lives.”
Who can join Oldham Sea Cadets?
The unit welcomes enquiries for Junior Sea Cadets aged 9 to 11, Senior Sea Cadets aged 12 to 18 and Royal Marines Cadets aged 13 to 18. No previous experience is required.
Senior Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 7.15pm to 9.30pm. Junior Sea Cadets meet on Mondays during the same hours. Meetings are held at Sea Cadets Oldham, Yates Street, Oldham, OL1 4AP.
