Oldham Council has published a guide to 20 free activities available across the borough as the summer holidays near their end.

The list includes visits to Gallery Oldham, library-based activities, historical trails, and family sessions running until late August and into September.

Gallery and Museums

Gallery Oldham on Greaves Street hosts the new Our Beautiful Oldham gallery, featuring wildlife and nature displays including fish exhibits, a book-filled tree installation, and virtual pond dipping.

The Waterfall of Kites display, made up of 100 colourful kites, is on show at Gallery Oldham until Saturday 29th August.

Oldham Archives, located at Spindles in the town centre, offers access to old photographs, maps, newspapers, and resources for family history research.

Town Centre Trail

The 12-stop Oldham Time Trek follows a route around the town centre, featuring animated characters, puzzles, and stories about Oldham's notable buildings.

Library Activities

Free summer craft sessions are running at libraries across Oldham until Friday 28th August. Children can take part in the Summer Reading Challenge, which runs until Saturday 12th September, where participants set reading goals and earn stickers, medals, and certificates.

Under-fives can join the Mini Challenge version of the reading scheme.

Bounce and Rhyme sessions bringing stories to life through songs, music and movement are available at libraries across the borough. A Little Reads session is scheduled at Oldham Library on Friday 28th August at 10am.

Free drop-in Lego clubs for children aged five and over are held at Northmoor and Limehurst libraries. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Sessions

Best Start Family Hubs across Oldham offer free Stay and Play sessions with toys, games, and activities for younger children. Some sessions require advance booking.

Free digital help drop-ins are available at Lees Library on Mondays and Oldham Library on Wednesdays, offering support with phones, tablets, and getting online.
