A 30-year-old man has been banned from three shops in Chadderton for three years after committing 30 shoplifting offences in the area.
Athanial Lucas, of no fixed address, appeared before Tameside Magistrates' Court on 29 July charged with three shoplifting offences at Londis in Chadderton. He was sentenced to eight weeks in custody and ordered to pay £513 in compensation.
The court also imposed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) lasting until 29 July 2029. The order was secured by Oldham Council's Community Safety Service in partnership with Greater Manchester Police.
Pattern of theft
Retailers reported Lucas for stealing up to three times a day. In each offence, he stole chocolate and confectionery. Between December 2025 and the court date, 30 reported shoplifting incidents were linked to him, resulting in losses of £3,994 to local businesses.
Banned locations
Under the terms of the order, Lucas is banned from entering One Stop Community Shop and Tesco Express on Butler Green, and Drury Convenience Store on Drury Lane, Chadderton.
Anyone who breaches the conditions of a Criminal Behaviour Order faces further criminal action and could be returned to court.
