A man has been banned from Royal Oldham Hospital for three years following a series of threats and abuse directed at NHS staff.
Andrew Stonier, 31, was issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order by Manchester Magistrates' Court on 29 June 2026. The order was granted following an application by Oldham Council's Community Safety Team.
The incidents
Stonier made repeated threats towards nurses and hospital staff, including threats to set fire to the hospital. His behaviour caused significant disruption, with staff spending hours dealing with him and diverting valuable time and resources from patient care.
What the ban means
The order prohibits Stonier from entering Royal Oldham Hospital from 29 June 2026 until 28 June 2029. He is permitted to enter only in specific circumstances, such as attending a pre-arranged appointment or requiring emergency medical treatment. A breach of the order will result in arrest.
Council response
An Oldham Council spokesperson said: "This individual's behaviour towards dedicated NHS staff was completely unacceptable. No one should be subjected to threatening, abusive or intimidating behaviour while carrying out their job, particularly those working tirelessly to provide care to patients."
The spokesperson added that the council took robust action to secure the order to send a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
What happens if the order is breached
Anyone who breaches the conditions of a Criminal Behaviour Order faces further criminal action and could be returned to court.
