Oldham Town Square Car Park has reopened approximately 126 additional parking spaces from Monday 9 November, ahead of the busy festive trading period.
The move aims to make visiting Oldham town centre easier for residents and shoppers during one of the year's busiest retail seasons. The car park opening times are Monday to Saturday 7am to midnight and Sunday 9am to midnight.
Why parking is being increased
Oldham Council says increased footfall to the town centre has been driven by the success of the new market and growing popularity of The Loom venue. The council is also staging a packed programme of autumn and winter events, including the Feast of Fire on Saturday 31 October and the Christmas Switch-On on Saturday 14 November, as part of Oldham's year as the Greater Manchester Town of Culture.
James Kington, Oldham Council's Director of Growth, said: "The success of our markets and events programme, particularly at The Loom, has helped attract more people into the town centre, and we want to make it as easy as possible for residents and visitors to enjoy everything Oldham has to offer."
Future works planned
Essential ongoing works will continue in the new year as part of the wider town centre regeneration. The car park or sections of it may need to close temporarily to allow these works to be carried out safely. The council said any future closures will be communicated in advance wherever possible.
